Aesthetic Laser Surgery
Your eyes are considered to be your most expressive and beautiful
feature. The eyes are our windows of our soul. If the eyes are baggy
or puffy we look much older than we are.
Aesthetic Eyelid Surgery
Blepharoplasty or surgical correction of the eyelids has been
performed for many years by means of traditional surgical methods
to remove the fatty pads of excess skin.
The aesthetic laser has changed all that giving surgeons better
control, bloodless surgical conditions and less after effects.
Wiith the laser we can resurface damages skin and remove the
excess skin and fat pads. There is less bruising and swelling
of the eyelids in comparison to traditional methods thus quickening
healing.

Laser Skin Resurfacing
The skin of the whole face around the eyes can be resurfaced
by laser surgery. A CO2 Laser is used to remove areas of damaged
or wrinkled skin, layer by layer. The procedure is most commonly
used to remove fine lines, especially around the eyes and mouth.
The laser is also effective in removing scarring and uneven pigmentation.
Laser Safety
The CO2 Laser uses high energy beams of light to vaporize scars,
lines, wrinkles and other skin defects layer by layer. The laser
light penetrates to a very precise controlled depth making the
procedure safer and more predictable than treatments such as chemical
peel and dermabrasion - thus reducing the risk of scarring or
pigmentation.
Laser skin resurfacing shows that it tightens the underlying
skin and smoothes wrinkles around the eyes.
It also stimulates the production of collagen to restructure
the skin. Collagen is the basic building block of the skin to
support for support and structure. With time the sun breaks down
the collagen resulting in loss of elasticity and causing wrinkles
and fine wrinkles. The new collagen that forms restores the skin
to a younger firmer skin.
Laser resurfacing is performed in either a hospital or an outpatient
clinic for cost containment. Laser resurfacing is performed under
either a local or a general anaesthetic.
It is a relatively quick procedure. It can take anything from
a few minutes to over an hour depending on how large an area is
involved.
Post Operatively
There will be some mild swelling and bruising after Laser blepharoplasty
and skin resurfacing. Post-operative discomfort varies from person
to person.
Where the full face is done some crusting will form with weeping
which will heal within 7-10 days. Post operative discomfort is
much like a light sunburn. Patients require little or no medication
for the disomfort.
The final result from Laser resurfacing will take several months
to fully apear. Once the pinkness fades the patient will notice
a fresher, smoother and younger appearance.
